Abstract: Radio frequency energy harvesting is a key in attaining perpetual lifetime for time-critical wireless powered communication networks (WPCNs) due to full control on energy transfer, far field region, small and low-cost circuitry. In WPCN, the wireless users harvest energy from the access point in the downlink and then transmit information to the access point in the uplink. In full-duplex systems, since the users can harvest energy during the transmission of other users, the order of transmission so scheduling of user transmissions is important. This seminar will cover the basics of WPCN, its applications, a brief overview of the scheduling algorithms for different objectives and the future directions.

About the Speaker: Dr. Muhammad Shahid Iqbal received the BS degree in telecommunication engineering from Government College University, Faisalabad and the MS degree in electrical engineering from National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, Pakistan. He did his Ph.D. in electrical and electronics engineering from Koc University, Istanbul. Currently, he is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, National University of Technology, Islamabad, Pakistan. His research interests include resource allocation for wireless communication networks, wireless powered communication networks, and sensor networks.
